First login and initial setup

Create your administrator account, optionally restore from a backup, and get oriented in the FileAgent console.

Last updated July 17, 2026

#Create the administrator account

The first time you open the console, FileAgent walks you through creating the initial administrator account — a username and password. This account manages users, credentials, jobs, and system configuration, so choose a strong, unique password.

Treat the first administrator as a system owner account. Add named accounts for the people who use FileAgent day to day rather than sharing this login (see Users & roles).

#Restoring from a backup instead

If you're rebuilding on a new host and have a FileAgent configuration backup, you can restore it from the same first-run screen instead of starting fresh. Restoring brings back your jobs, credentials, users, and settings. See Backups & restore.

#Get oriented

After signing in you land on the Dashboard, which summarizes job status, recent runs, and system health. The left sidebar is your main navigation:

#Recommended next steps

  1. Activate your license if you purchased a plan.
  2. Set a session timeout and review admin & system settings.
  3. Install a trusted HTTPS certificate.
  4. Add your first credential and destination, then create a job.
