#The quick start, step by step
- Install FileAgent on your chosen host — Windows or Linux.
- Open the console over HTTPS and create your administrator account.
- Activate your license if you purchased a plan (Settings → Licensing). Skip on Free.
- Add a credential for your first remote system and use Test connection (Destinations & testing). Local folders don't need one.
- Create a job in Copy mode pointing at a safe test destination (Creating a job).
- Run it now and review the result in Logs — confirm the right files moved.
- Schedule it and switch to the transfer mode you actually need (Schedules, Transfer modes).
- Turn on failure alerts so problems find you (Notifications).
Validate every new job with a manual run into a scratch destination before scheduling it or switching to Move/Sync-Mirror. A two-minute test now prevents a surprise at 2 AM.
#In your first week
- Set a session timeout and review general settings (Admin & system settings).
- Install a trusted HTTPS certificate so the console opens without a browser warning (Certificates).
- Add the users who need access and give them the least role that fits (Users & roles).
- If your plan includes it, configure a configuration backup (Backups & restore).
- Skim Security & trust for a quick hardening pass.
